RICHARD VAUGHAN FOR BADMINTON WORLD FEDERATION COUNCIL
Who am I, and why I would be the best Candidate for the Badminton World Federation (BWF) Council?
I am a double Olympian and former world number seven singles player. Since retiring as an athlete, I have worked in digital for a Google Gold Partner Agency, as CEO of Badminton Ireland, senior leadership roles across several sports.
Through my various roles in badminton, I have worked with badminton with many players, coaches, and Member Associations (MAs) across all Continents.
I have an MBA, CPA accounting qualification, I am a graduate of the Institute of Company Directors, and I am completing a PhD in Sports Governance.
I have successfully run sports federations for the past decade, I understand your day-to-day business, and for the past two years I have been the Vice-President for Europe at the BWF where I have contributed significantly to improved governance.
For these reasons I feel I am the best candidate to represent you and the issues that matter for all MAs.
What will be my focus points as a Member of the BWF Council?
To represent Member Association (MA) interests, both the bigger and smaller MA’s by championing programmes that benefit our sport and all MA’s, for example:
Focus on Key Member Events like the Commonwealth Games which are crucial for the development of many nations.
Strengthening Trust and Transparency: I am committed to further enhancing governance standards so that all member associations—large or small—feel represented, supported.
I am a supporter of term limits which helps ensure fresh perspectives and encourage diverse leadership.
My journey in badminton, from player to administrator, has reinforced my belief in the power of sport to unite and inspire people across borders. As we look to the future, I am eager to work alongside all of you to ensure that badminton continues to flourish on the global stage.
For more information, or to share your thoughts and questions, please contact me on the links below. I look forward to meeting you all in Xiamen this April, if not before, and I sincerely thank you for your time, your trust, and, most importantly, your support.
Let us continue to grow badminton together. Thank you.
Yours Sincerely

Some reflections and highlights on my time with Squash Australia where a short three-year stint, became 6 great years.
Another great project at Badminton Ireland was the collaborative work we undertook with a charity that worked with Irish school children to do exchanges in
In 2015 it was rewarding to be part of Badminton Ireland corporate social responsibility (csr) programme where we ran a donate a racquet campaign across
Another project I have been involved with is Interactive Squash, a solution that brings the entire Squash court to life using the entire playing surface
